The application phase of the first edition of the Healthy Initiatives Budget at the Medical University of Gdańsk has come to an end. We would like to thank all members of our academic community who got involved and submitted their ideas—each proposal was a valuable voice in support of wellbeing, health, and the development of our campus. The evaluation committee has reviewed all submissions in terms of formal, legal, and technical criteria. Projects that meet the requirements and can be implemented within the available budget have been qualified for the voting stage.
Voting will be held online—each MUG student, doctoral candidate, and staff member will receive an individual survey link sent to their @gumed.edu.pl email address. Voting will take place from 16th to 27th June 2025. Results will be announced on 30 June.
Below are the initiatives that advanced to the next stage. Each one addresses specific needs of our community—from relaxation and mindfulness to physical activity. Staff projects qualified for voting:
This initiative involves transforming the green areas around the Main Library building (ul. Dębinki 1) into a functional study and relaxation area.
The designated area will feature benches, tables, bike racks, and solar-powered charging stations—all surrounded by rich vegetation: hedges, flower beds, shrubs, and climbing plants.
The space will be dedicated to MUG students and doctoral candidates, offering a comfortable area for both individual and group study, as well as outdoor rest.
The project will enhance the campus’s aesthetics, foster academic community integration, and support mental health and learning effectiveness by blending functionality with nature.
Project cost: PLN 50,080.00
This project aims to combat obesity among the MUG students.
A key component is body composition measurement using a medical-grade analyser, enabling early identification of individuals at risk.
Based on the results, participants will be able to take part in preventive activities: nutrition lectures, physiotherapy workshops, and individual consultations.
The initiative will be carried out at the Department of Prevention and Teaching, as well as in outreach campaigns across all University buildings.
The project promotes health awareness and encourages preventive behaviour in the academic community, helping address the rising prevalence of overweight and obesity.
Project cost: PLN 31,900.00
This project aims to create a friendly, green relaxation area on campus by installing four picnic sets (a table with two benches) permanently fixed to the ground.
The location (the area near the Main Library) was chosen with students, doctoral candidates, and university staff in mind, to provide a place for outdoor relaxation during free time, breaks between classes or while waiting for exams.
The project supports mental well-being, fosters integration, and promotes a healthy lifestyle within the academic environment.
Project cost: PLN 10,790.56
This project proposes the creation of a covered bicycle parking area with 40 spots for MUG employees. The shelter would be located next to the University’s Rectorate building—a central location relative to the main campus units (Rectorate, CBM, Tuwima, AGN, B1, B13, UCC).
It responds to the needs of employees who currently park their bikes in unsuitable places—such as basements, offices, or against fences. The investment will improve campus aesthetics and safety, encourage eco-friendly transport, and support employee health and physical activity. The area will be monitored by CCTV to enhance user safety.
Project cost: PLN 50,000
This project aims to create an interactive map of the Medical University of Gdańsk’s campuses — including the main campus in Aniołki and the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The map will allow users to search for buildings, plan routes, view floor layouts and locate university units.
It will also be integrated with the university’s online calendar and enriched with additional information — parking spots, bike racks, food outlets, bus/tram stops, social areas, and entrances accessible to people with disabilities.
Inspired by the solution developed at Gdańsk University of Technology, this tool will help new staff, students, and people with disabilities better navigate the campus.
Project cost: PLN 60,000
This initiative proposes the installation of an active relaxation area in the lobby of the MUG Main Library. It will include two stationary bikes which allow users to charge mobile devices while working out.
These “cycling desks” are a health-promoting and eco-friendly solution—enabling physical activity without interrupting study or work.
The project supports focus, stress reduction, and healthy lifestyles, while also enriching the library with a modern, user-friendly space.
It will benefit students, university staff, and other library visitors.
Project cost: PLN 19,382.34
The project involves the purchase of two mobile acoustic armchairs for the Main Library’s reading room.
Thanks to their special construction and sound-absorbing materials, these chairs will create a semi-private zone for work or rest in a noisy environment.
They will allow users to disconnect from acoustic and visual stimuli, improving concentration, comfort, and mental wellbeing.
This modern furniture will not only enhance the library’s atmosphere but also reinforce the University’s image as a place that supports diverse student and staff needs.
Project cost: PLN 35,714.28
This project proposes transforming the area near the Foreign Language Teaching Center (ul. Dębinki 1B) into a welcoming and functional relaxation area.
New amenities—benches, deck chairs, and a chess table—will create a space for rest, socializing, and informal meetings among MUG students.
The zone will not only enhance the campus’s aesthetics but also support psychological wellbeing and safety by reducing informal gatherings in emergency stairwells.
It addresses the need for spaces that foster connection and idea exchange outside lecture halls.
Project cost: PLN 15,583.98
This project proposes upgrading the cardio room at the MUG Sports Center by purchasing new, professional equipment — treadmills and stationary bikes.
The current equipment is outdated and mostly unusable, making it difficult to run physical education classes.
With the planned increase in group sizes, this investment is essential. The upgraded facility will be available not only for PE classes but also to all members of the academic community—five evenings a week.
The project will enhance conditions for physical activity, expand the University’s sports offer, and positively affect users’ health and wellbeing.
Project cost: PLN 77,281.00
